“The quality of molybdenum grids and the data collection from 2D crystals for electron crystallography”

The use of grids has become standard in electron cryo-microscopy.  However, the evidence in many peer reviewed articles has shown that the rough surface of grids can induce the carbon film to crinkle. Meanwhile, the flatness of 2D crystals on the support film is a critical factor in protein electron crystallography. Grids with very smooth surfaces are strongly recommended.
