This 6 day course is part of the outreach and training activities of the NCRR National Resource for Automated Molecular Microscopy (NRAMM), located at the Center for Integrative Molecular Biosciences (CIMBio) at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI). The course is a next level follow on from the previous basic training courses in cryoEM held at NRAMM in 2003 and 2005. This new course is aimed primarily at students and postdocs who have already received some basic training and have some initial experience practicing cryoEM.
The course will include morning lectures covering the theory of electron microscopy and the methods used for processing and analysis. A major goal of the course will be to discuss some of the challenges that remain to be solved, include improvements in imaging, processing and recontruction required to reach higher reosltuions and solve small structures with limited symmetry or conformational variability. The basic format of the course will be theoretical lectures in the mornings followed by practical demonstrations and panel discussions in the afternoon. Evenings will be reserved for poster presentations by student participants and for a number of research talks.
