SARS emerged suddenly this year in Asia and has rapidly spread internationally. Intense investigation in a number of labs around the world is beginning to yield a clear picture of the virus, and the epidemiology of disease. Still many questions remain about the mechanisms of viral pathogenesis, the origins of the virus and prospects for future control.
