“An Introduction to the Level Set Method”
Matthias Machacek – Laboratory for Computational Cell Biology, The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, CA
Since the introduction through S. Osher the Level-Set Method has proven to be a powerful tool for the description of moving boundaries. The method was successfully applied in a wide range of different fields such as fluid dynamics, combustion, image processing, computer vision and geometry. In this talk an introduction to the method will be given, which will cover application examples, the basic principles, the associated advantages and difficulties as well as an outline of how to implement a simple Level Set algorithm. The implementation will be demonstrated on the example of the protrusion measurement in migrating cells.
