Bacteriophage found in Torrey Pines marshland.
This image contains a bacteriophage found in water samples taken from Torrey Pines marshland on July 17, 2007. A bacteriophage, also commonly known as a phage, is a type of virus that infects bacteria. Phages reproduce by injecting genomic material into a host cell. Through the constant exchange of genomic material, it is believed that phages have contributed to evolution.
