A Workshop on Advanced Topics in EM Structure Determination: Challenges and Opportunities
October 29-November 3, 2017
National Resource for Automated Molecular Microscopy
Simons Electron Microscopy Center, New York Structural Biology Center, New York, New York
CryoEM has entered a new era over the past several years but there are many challenges that remain to be solved. A major goal of this workshop will be to discuss challenges in the field as well as opportunities to address these challenges and move the field forward. Topics to be discussed will include specimen preparation, imaging, instrumentation, processing and reconstruction, and methods for validation. Evenings will be reserved for poster presentations by participants and research talks.
The instructors for the course will include: Thomas Braun (UNIBAS), Marcus Brubaker (Structura), Jue Chen (Rockefeller) Anchi Cheng (TSRI), Yifan Cheng (UCSF), Wah Chiu (Stanford), Rado Danev (EMBL), Ed Eng (NYSBC), Joachim Frank (Columbia), Bob Glaeser (LBL), Nicholas Grigorieff (Grigorieff), Jun Liu (Yale), Steve Ludtke (Baylor), Julia Mahamid (EMBL), Thomas Marlovits (IMBA), Alex Noble (NYSBC), John Rubinstein (Toronto), Chris Russo (MRC), Sjors Scheres (MRC), Scott Stagg (FSU), Elizabeth Villa (UCSD), Tom Walz (Rockefeller).
The workshop is aimed at students, postdocs and faculty that already have some experience practicing cryoEM. We will accommodate a total of 100 participants. The workshop will be held at CUNY Advanced Science Research Center, 85 Saint Nicholas Terrace, New York, NY 10031, which is immediately adjacent to NYSBC where NRAMM is located.
The application process is now closed, applications are being reviewed and applicants will hear by August 1 if they have been accepted.
