Architecture of an infection conduit

The packing and delivery of bacteriophage P22’s genome involves the assembly of 51 protein subunits into a multifunctional macromolecule, named the tail machine. The densities corresponding to each of the constitutive monomers have been solved by single particle cryoEM. Like molecular blueprints, this segmented reconstruction describes the intricate architecture of this molecular machine.
